A Venezuelan-Canadian flutist, composer, and educator, René Orea possesses a solid background in both Western classical music (formal training) and Latin American popular music (cultural and family heritage). This dual foundation affords him great versatility and a broad perspective on the musical experience as a performer, creator, and teacher.
Having lived and worked in Montreal (Quebec), Stavanger (Norway), and Venezuela, René Orea is currently based in France (Isère). He teaches at the "Hector Berlioz" Departmental Conservatory in Bourgoin-Jallieu, the Voreppe Municipal Music School, and his own studio, Orea Musique, in Coublevie.
He holds the French State Diploma (DE) as well as a Doctorate (PhD), two Master’s degrees (M.Mus), and a DESS (specialized graduate diploma) from the University of Montreal.
