TUYERÍA BARROCA, for flute and piano (PDF format)

Tuyeria Barroca represents a personal vision of the golpe or joropo musical genre from the Tuy Valleys (golpe tuyero) in northern Venezuela. This is a typical musical form characterized by virtuosity and highly complex counterpoint, performed by a metal-stringed harp, a pair of maracas, and vocals. Specifically, this complex polyphonic character, as well as the type of melodic lines, could be seen as reminiscent of the European Baroque repertoire (17th and 18th centuries). In this sense, Tuyeria Barroca symbolizes a fusion of the two musical languages at play, golpe tuyero and Baroque music, accompanied by a personal and modern touch.
 This piece was composed in Montreal in 2004, and has been performed several times in Canada, the United States, Venezuela and Ecuador, and recorded on the album "Albricias del Sur", 2025 (Lorel Rodríguez, flute, and Rissa Salinas, piano)
